Three hurt in fire at Rotterdam student complex
Three people were injured in a fire in an apartment complex on Admiraliteitskade in Rotterdam on Monday evening. The twelve floors high building contain mainly student housing, a spokesperson for the local safety office said to NU.nl.
All three injured people were taken to hospital. Two inhaled smoke, the third sustained burns.
The fire started on the third floor of the building around 10:45 p.m., according to AD. Firefighters managed to extinguish it quickly, and it didn't spread to any of the other floors. The residents of multiple flats had to leave their homes while the firefighters worked. The fire department ventilated the building. The cause of the fire is not clear.
The building used to be an office building, but was converted into homes a few years ago, AD reports. It contains small- and studio apartments and houses mainly students and people just starting out on the housing market.
