Garbage truck catches fire on Amsterdam street

A municipal garbage truck caught fire on Ferdinand Huyckstraat in Amsterdam-West on Thursday morning. The massive fire caused an explosion on the truck, shattering the windows of surrounding homes, AT5 reports.

The fire department has the fire under control and firefighters are working on extinguishing it. No one was injured. The explosion was caused by a gas cylinder on the garbage truck, a spokesperson for the fire department said to the Amsterdam broadcaster.

The police closed down the street. Due to the smoke, people are advised to stay out of the area.

The fire spread to a nearby car and some trees before firefighters got it under control.
