Fire in Rotterdam youth center; 13 hurt
Multiple people were injured in a fire in an apartment building in Rotterdam during the early hours of Wednesday morning. A total of 13 people were treated for smoke inhalation, 11 of which were taken to hospital, AD reports.
The building in question is assisted living location Roobrughof. It houses young people with psychological problems.
The fire started in a meter cupboard on the third floor of the five story building. When fire fighters arrived, a container on the ground floor also turned out to be on fire.
Firefighters managed to get the fires under control quickly, but there was a lot of smoke. Multiple homes were evacuated and residents were temporarily sheltered in a nearby hotel. Most of them have since returned to their homes - all but two of the apartments were declared safe by the fire brigade.
It is not yet clear whether the two fires in the building are related or happenstance. The police are investigating.
