Dutch man seriously injured in Assault in Austria; eight Dutch arrested
A 20-year-old Dutch man was found bleeding and seriously injured by a passerby on the street in Kirchberg, Austria during the early hours of Saturday morning. Eight other Dutch were arrested on suspicion of assault.
A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs told NU.nl that eight other Dutch were arrested on suspicion of assault. Seven of them were released from custody after questioning. The eighth was released on Sunday night, the spokesperson said.
The Dutch got into a fight in a pub in Tyrol during the early hours of Saturday morning. They were removed from the club.
A short time later, a passerby found the young Dutch man bleeding heavily on the street. He had a broken femur, several broken ribs, and head injuries. The young man was taken to an academic hospital in Innsbruck. "He needs to be further examined to determine how serious everything is and how he sustained the injuries", a spokesperson for the police in Tyrol said to NU.nl on Sunday.
The Foreign Affairs spokesperson confirmed that the victim is still in hospital. "If he needs help, we are available, but usually this is handled by the insurance", he said to the newspaper. "We are in contact with the people who had been arrested and we are providing consular assistance, but we do not interfere with the judicial process."
