Dozens evacuated in Amsterdam’ cafe fire
Firefighters evacuated dozens of apartments Wednesday night after a fire broke out in the ventilation system of Caffe Oslo near the Surinameplein. Several people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but there were no serious injuries, the fire department said.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. It took firefighters several hours to extinguish the blaze as they first had trouble locating it.
The fire travelled through the floors and spread to neighboring buildings along the Sloterkade. The fire was finally struck out by 10:45 p.m. though firefighters were still needed to check each floor of each building and control prevent any flare-ups from occurring.
