Multiple people stabbed at Wageningen Univ. campus; Student arrested
Two people were injured in an incident at Wageningen University on Thursday morning. At least one was taken to hospital with stab wounds. A man was arrested. He is a Spanish speaking student, a university employee told De Gelderlander.
According to the employee, the stabbing victim is another student. He was stabbed in the eye and taken to a hospital in Ede, the newspaper reports. The other victim was beaten and treated at the scene by paramedics.
Wageningen University's news site for students and employees, Resource, reports that the victim who was assaulted is the editor of the university medium. He was about to go outside when he saw two young men fighting with each other. "At one point, one had the other in a stranglehold and I saw one boy looking anxious. I jumped in between them and got a hard punch to my head", he said to Resource. According to him, the two boys know each other.
Simon Vink, spokesperson for the university's Executive Board, confirmed to De Gelderlander that two people were hurt and one of them had to go to hospital. He called it a terrible incident. "We are opening an information number for concerned parents", he said to the newspaper. Information can also be found on the university's website.
According to Vink, the police only closed down the area where the incident happen. Classes are continuing as normal.
The police are investigating what happened.
