Rocks thrown at Dutch driver competing in ECO Africa Race
Dutch trucker Gerard de Rooy had a good start to the ECO Africa Race in Morocco. Despite rocks being thrown through his side window shortly before the finish line, he was still the first trucker to finish, Omroep Brabant reports.
"At ten, fifteen kilometers before the finish there was a group of stone throwers. We got a stone through the side window", De Rooy said to the broadcaster. Fortunately nobody was injured. Some others got stones through the windshield."
The 92 kilometers long stage of the rally to Dar Kaoura was difficult due to stones and dust. De Rooy crossed the finish line 5.25 minutes behind Vladimir Vasilyev and his Mini. "With all those stones on the side of the track, I could not drift well. I did not want to run the risk of punctures. That affected the speed", De Rooy said to the broadcaster.
