Party turns into brawl, Zaandam venue evacuated
The police had to clear out a conference center in Zaandam during the early hours of Tuesday morning, after a party attended by 300 to 400 Eritreans from across the country turned into brawls, NOS reports.
The evacuated Eritreans spread over the center of Zaandam afterwards. The police deployed a helicopter to keep an eye on the situation, according to news wire ANP.
ProRail reports that two young people involved in the brawls were removed from a train to Amsterdam around 6:00 a.m. "Because of fights with young people in Zaandam, the police let a group of young people travel to Amsterdam. They are now causing delays for trains departing from Zaandam", the rail manager said on Twitter.
According to NOS, the police called in units from all over the region to restore order in Zaandam. Police dogs were also used to help clear out the conference center. It is not clear whether any arrests were made.
Early on Tuesday morning a police spokesperson could not tell RTL Nieuws exactly what happened. According to her, they police received a report about a group that "behaved badly". She did not want to say anything more about it.
