Trawler captain gets 7 years for cocaine trafficking

The captain of a trawler was sentenced to seven years in prison for cocaine trafficking by the court in Rotterdam on Thursday. The case revolves around a shipment of over 700 kilograms of cocaine discovered at the port of Den Helder early in 2015, Noord Holland Nieuws reports.

Two crew members of the trawler were given 42 months in prison. The man who tried to drive the cocaine out of the port in a van, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Two intermediaries were acquitted, according to the newspaper.

The value of the drugs involved is estimated at over 20 million euros.
