Man gets 5 years in prison for raping girl, 12, on train

A 23-year-old man from Vleuten was sentenced to 5 years in prison for raping a then 12-year-old girl on a train between Zwolle and Nijmegen in 2015. He also has to pay 10 thousand euros in compensation to the girl. The sentence is higher than the two years the Public Prosecutor demanded, ANP reports.

Adam V.B agreed to meet the girl on May 6th, 2015. He lured into a train, pushed her into the train's toilet and forced her to perform sexual acts under threat of a knife. He then left the child on the train with no money and no phone.

The man was also convicted of making and possessing child pornography - he made pornographic material of a 14-year-old girl who stayed with him for several days.

V.B. was not present in court to hear the verdict against him. He was first scheduled to be tried in March, but there was no trace of him. In May he was arrested a day before his trial was set to start, but then the court decided that further investigation was necessary. When his trial finally started two weeks ago, he had fled to Spain, according to the news wire.
