A 1-year-old girl from Hengelo died on Thursday after being rushed in critical condition to a hospital in Enschede. Emergency services responded to an apartment on Theresiastraat in Hengelo to help the critically injured child. Exactly what happened is unclear. The police are investigating in the apartment, to rule out a crime, according to newspaper AD.

The child was rushed to the hospital by ambulance under police escort. Numerous crossing points on the way were closed to speed the ambulance's way.
