Baby found dead in Rotterdam bushes has Asian roots
A baby that was found dead in a rubbish bag near the Luxor Theater in Rotterdam on August 3rd, has Asian roots, the police revealed on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday night. A DNA investigation revealed that the baby boy's mother originally came from Asia, though exactly where in Asia is not yet clear. "For the sake of clarity: the mother may live in the Netherlands, but has her roots in Asia", the police said.
The investigation also showed that the baby died some time before being found hidden among some bushes, around July 24th according to the police. The baby was fully formed, so the mother carried him to term and was therefore likely visibly pregnant. Exactly when the child was born is hard to determine. According to the police it was on or shortly before July 24th.
The police are urgently seeking the child's mother, as she may be in need of professional help. The investigation was extended to include the cruise ship terminal located some 250 meters from where the baby was found on Antoine Platekade - the mother may be an employee on a cruise ship.
The police call on witnesses to come forward. Specifically the police want to speak to anyone who noticed a rubbish bag in the bushes on Antoine Platekade before July 29th, or noticed anyone walking with a rubbish bag in the area. Investigators also want to talk to anyone who knows an Asian woman who was pregnant and now does not have a child.
