Some 30 people evacuated in apartment block fire
An apartment building in Oosterhout was evacuated early Friday morning after a large fire started in one of the apartments. Firefighters took 30 people from their beds. No one was injured, Omroep Brabant reports.
The three-story apartment building is located on Vrijheidsstraat. The apartment in which the fire started, burnt out completely. Tree other homes sustained damage, and the fire department is still investigating a further two apartments for damage.
The fire broke out around 5:00 a.m. Firefighters had it under control by 6:00 a.m. Alternative accommodation is being sought for the residents of at least four apartments. The other residents can slowly start returning to their homes.
On Thursday night the police arrested a woman on Vrijheidsstraat for setting a fire in her home. It is unclear whether these two incidents are related.
