DJI to train Dutch firefighters, paramedics with new drone flight school
The municipality of Enschede signed an agreement with drone maker DJI in which DJI will train firefighters and paramedics in flying drones. Drones are expected to one day play a big role in emergency situations, and this agreement is intended to make sure that Dutch emergency workers are able to use them, RTL Z reports.
The training will happen at the former Twente Airport and in cooperation with Technology Base Twente. According to responsible alderman Patrick Welman, Enschede was chosen for the training possibilities it has to offer. "The rules around drones are very complicated. So a former airport is very interesting, because it is a controllable environment with all the right faclities."
The intention is that DJI will be involved in this area for a long term. "They're really coming. They're going to make real investments here", Welman said to RTL Z. According to him, the agreement with DJI already created dozens of jobs. "In the long run, the entire area should help hundreds of people to work."
