A 25-year-old woman was caught using a baby to smuggle drugs and two cellphones into the prison in Zaandam. The contraband was hidden in the baby's diaper, the police said on Sunday. She and a 28-year-old accomplice were arrested.

The woman herself is not allowed to enter the prison, after she was previously caught with drugs, but she was allowed to bring the baby. At the prison, the baby was handed over to a 28-year-old man from Lelystad. A prison guard held the baby while the man was searched, and felt something strange in the diaper. He asked the man to remove the diaper, and the phones and a small quantity of soft drugs were revealed.

The 28-year-old man claimed not to know about the contraband. Both he and the woman were arrested.

According to Het Parool, the man is a detainee at the prison. The nature of his relationship with the woman is unclear. It is also unclear whether the baby is their child or someone else's.
