Hungary extradites father who kidnapped Enschede kids

A 35-year-old man who kidnapped his three young children from their mother's Enschede home last month, was extradited to the Netherlands, the Public Prosecutor said in a statement.

The Syrian was caught on a train on the border between Hungary and Romania last week. He had Hassan (5), Nazih (4) and Alma with him. The kids were taken from their mother's home on Veenstraat in Enschede on May 19th. The father was visiting with the kids and left with them when he was left unattended for a moment.

The Hungarian authorities arrested the man based on an European arrest warrant. Dutch police officers and a volunteer from Dutch refugee agency Vluchtelingenwerk immediately left for Hungary to go get the kids.

The man will be arraigned on Tuesday.
