Amsterdam travelers furious over poor train service after Europa League finals
Train passengers trying to leave Amsterdam after the public viewing of the Europa League finals on Wednesday night are furious at NS over poor service. Social media flooded with complaints about overcrowded trains, lack of communication and general chaos, ANP reports. Ajax lost the match against Manchester United 2-0.
Some 120 thousand Ajax fans gathered on the Museumplein in the Dutch capital to watch the match on big screens. Trains quickly became overcrowded when the match was done and everyone wanted to go home.
On social media passengers complained about NS not thinking to arrange extra trains, poor communication from NS staff, sudden platform changes, trains being evacuated and ever increasing delays. The police were called in to help keep order and ensure that some overcrowded trains could depart, while other passengers were left waiting on the platforms.
According to the news wire, NS told some passengers to rather take a taxi, but client service employees could not tell them whether the extra costs would be reimbursed. Others were told that their only options were to take a taxi, or wait for the first early morning train.
