Amster-jammed! Over 120K in Amsterdam for Europa League final; Police: Stay away
Police in Amsterdam are asking people to avoid coming to Amsterdam on Wednesday night to watch the Europa League final match between Ajax and Manchester United. Authorities were expecting 100,000 people to show up, trying to watch the match on a giant screen at Museumplein, but police said an hour before the match that at least 120,000 were already in the city center.
Those still in transit should not continue to Amsterdam, police said in a statement and also on Twitter. They believe several thousand football fans were still using public transit or private vehicles to descend on Amsterdam.
"Want to see the match on time? Go watch it somewhere else, and do not come to Amsterdam," police said.
Authorities are expecting at least 150,000 people visiting Amsterdam on Thursday to celebrate an Ajax victory should the team beat the Red Devils.
