Gay violence in Amsterdam: Criminal cases halted as trails go cold
The Amsterdam police are halting two investigations into attacks on homosexuals in the city due to a lack of new leads, Mayor Eberhard van der Laan said in a report to the city council. "Despite the high priority given to both cases, no suspects have come to light. Both cases have no new leads", the Amsterdam mayor wrote, Het Parool reports.
The incidents in both cases happened during the early hours of January 25th. A 46-year-old man was robbed and assaulted and called a "dirty old faggot" on Gulden Winkelplantsoen. And a 21-year-old man was picked up by an illegal taxi, robbed and assaulted.
In his report Van der Laan added that suspects were arrested in two other serious incidents involving gay violence. He referred to an assault on a gay couple on the docks and a fatal stabbing in Oosterpark.
