Amanda Todd webcam sex abuse suspect to be extradited to Canada
The Netherlands can extradite Aydin C. to Canada to stand trial for his role in the death of Canadian teen Amanda Todd, the Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday. The 15-year-old girl committed suicide in 2012 after being extorted for years by someone who convinced her to undress in front of a webcam for him. C. is the alleged perpetrator suspect in the case.
Last month C. was sentenced in the Netherlands to 10 years and eight months in prison for sex abuse and extortion of 34 underage girls. Canada suspects him of extortion, luring children over the internet, threats, stalking and possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute.
With the Tuesday ruling, the Supreme Court confirms a ruling by the court in Amsterdam in June last year. The Amsterdam court ruled that the Tilburg man could be extradited as soon as the criminal case against him in the Netherlands was completed. C. appealed against the June decision.
It is ultimately up to the Minister of Security and Justice to decide if and when C. will be extradited to stand trial in Canada.
