Multiple injured in collision between car and train

Several people were injured in a collision between a car and a train in Harlingen on Monday. The accident happened at a level crossing on Oude Trekweg, NOS reports.

It seems that the people in the car were injured. According to NOS, they are still in the car and their current condition is unknown. An air ambulance was deployed to help.

It is unclear whether anyone in the train was injured. Buses were deployed to take the passengers to their destination, the police said on Twitter. The police ask that all train passengers make sure they are registered with the police before leaving the scene of the accident.

According to ProRail, the accident happened at a crossing that does not have barriers, only lights that flash red when a train is approaching. A spokesperson said to NOS that ProRail already has concrete plans to change the situation. "But that is hardly the point at the moment. At this time our main concern is for those invovled."

Rail traffic between Dronryp and Harlingen Haven was brought to a standstill due to the accident.
