Some 14,000 Utrecht homes' power restored after hours long outage
Around midnight the power went out for between 14 thousand and 15 thousand homes in Utrecht. Large parts of the city were pitch dark, as the streetlights were also affected. Power was restored around 5:30 this morning, NOS reports.
The massive power outage was caused by a fire in an electricity station on Nijverheidsweg, grid manager Stedin said. The fire was extinguished within an hour and technicians could get to work on getting the station up and running again, according tor RTL Nieuws.
As the power outage lasted for more than four hours, affected Utrecht residents are entitled to compensation from the power companies.
