Netherlands turns down heat to save energy on Warm Sweater Day
Nearly 40 Dutch municipalities, a number of educational institutions and numerous Dutch businesses are turning down the heat a little on Friday for Warm Sweater Day. Under te slogan "Warm yourself, not the world", the organizers of Warm Sweater Day want to draw attention to global warming, the Telegraaf reports.
With this action the Warm Sweater Day organization wants to show ordinary Dutch what they can do in the fight against global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. If everyone in the Netherlands puts on a warmer sweater and turns down the heating by just one degree, the Netherlands can save about 4 million cubic meters of gas per day, according to the organizers.
Over 200 thousand people are expected to participate in Warm Sweater Day today by wearing their favorite sweater. On the Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle people can have their photo taken with their favorite sweater. And several cities had campaigns asking people to post a photo of themselves in their sweaters on social media, according to the Telegraaf.
