Extra security at Amsterdam mosque after Quebec shooting
THe Blauwe Mosque in Amsterdam will have extra security during the noon prayer on Friday. The extra security is organized by the Security Pact against Discrimination, a group made up of Muslims, Jews, Christians and other organizations, Het Parool reports.
The extra security is to show solidarity after the attack on a mosque in the Canadian city of Quebec, in wich six people were killed. The attack also resulted in mosques in the large cities in the Netherlands deciding to lock their doors during prayers, as a precaution.
"Let's prevent fear of the other prevailing and continue to build mutual trust and invest in structural contact", the Security Pact said. The group will gather at the mosque in Nieuw West at noon and stand watch for the duration of the noon prayer.
Accordin got Roemer van Oordt of the Pact, this is mostly a symbolic gesture. "We want to make a gesture towards the Muslim commuity in the Netherlands, but also want to show that there is a structural problem which remains underexposed in our opinion. The question is when rather than whether there will be another attack on a mosque", he said to the newspaper.
