Man shot dead on Amsterdam street not a hardened criminal

The man shot and killed in Amsterdam Osdorp on Tuesday was 25-year-old Justin Jap Tjon, according to Het Parool. He was not known as a hardened criminal with an impressive reputation, the newspaper reports based on its own research.

Jap Tjon did appear in the police systems, but not for crimes "you'd expect someone to be assassinated over", a spokesperson for the police said to the newspaper on Wednesday. And surveying the Amsterdam streets seem to lead to the same conclusion. His name and picture did not ring many bells in the criminal environment, and lawyers and investigators confirm the image that he was not a serious criminal, according to the newspaper.

Simply put, too little is known about Justin Jap Tjon to draw a conclusion on why he was gunned down. Many of his friends did not know his last name or what he did for work. Though many stressed that he was "always happy", according to the newspaper. Many said that he had problems with some regularity, but not exactly what kind of problems those were.
