Police: Stop posting footage of fatal Almelo accident online

The Almelo police call on residents to stop sharing photos and videos on social media of a fatal accident in the city on Monday. A 16-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a car.

The accident happened on Vincent van Goghplein, right in front of a crowded shopping center. Multiple people saw it happen, and several people took photos and videos. According to AD, the 16-year-old boy was cycling when he was hit by a car. He died at the scene.

"We STRONGLY ask everyone to stop sharing and remove these videos and pictures", the Almelo police write on Facebook. "Many people do not realize what these images can do to the relatives of the victim. In addition, the videos are being sent to people (also many children it seems) who are unwillingly confronted with these unpleasant images."

The police advise parents of kids who photographed or recorded the accident to talk to their children and explain how the footage can hurt others. If the children are affected by the images, victim aid can be called in.
