Slight rise in new asylum seekers last month

There was a slight increase in the number of asylum seekers arriving in the Netherlands last month compared to August, according to Statistics Netherlands. The number has been slowly increasing since April. In September the Netherlands' immigration and naturalization service IND registered a total of 3,030 asylum seekers. That is 654 more than in August. Of these 1,805 were first time asylum applicants and 1,225 were people joining family members already in the Netherlands. A massive 75 percent of the people joining family members already in the Netherlands came from Syria last month. In the first three quarters of this year 3,685 Syrians came to the Netherlands to join family members who got asylum here.
