Funeral held for Dutch photojournalist killed in Libya
Dutch photojournalist Jeroen Oerlemans' funeral was held in the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon. The 46-year-old war photographer was shot and killed by an ISIS sniper in Libya early this month.
A few hundred people attended the service, according to the Telegraaf. The media was asked to show restraint and give the family their privacy.
"Jeroen is remembered by family, friends and acquaintances as a warm, engaging and committed guy with a great sense of humor, an eye for detail and undivided attention for everything he loved and stood for", one of the speakers said, according to the newspaper.
"Jeroen found his calling in photojournalism", another speaker said. "Using his camera he wanted to show the harsh reality in crisis areas to the rest of the world."
After the service Oerlemans was laid to rest at the Zorgvlied cemetery.
