Psych treatment for fatal prison stabbing
The court in The Hague today sentenced Johannes R. to institutionalized psychiatric treatment for an unlimited period for brutally killing 82-year-old Elbert Geveke in the Zoetermeer prison last year, ANP reports.
The sentence correspond to what the Public Prosecutor demanded. R.'s lawyer also advocated for psychiatric treatment for his client. The two behavioral scientists that examined R. concluded that he is schizophrenic and in need of long and intensive treatment.
On September 20th last year R. forced the lock on the a cell door in the Zoetermeer prison and attacked Geveke. He stabbed, hit and kicked the elderly man before tying him up. Geveke was in prison at the time on suspicion of attempted murder of a realtor.
R was in prison at the time for, among other things, a violent scooter theft and stalking musician Chantal Janzen.
