Body found in Groningen canal; fears rise for missing student
A body was found in the water of the Lopendiep in Groningen on Monday. The victim has not yet been identified, but many fear that it is missing student Wytze Pennink.
An investigation will identify the victim, the police said on Twitter. The Lopendiep is the canal along the Noorderhaven, where 18-year-old Pennink was last seen early on Friday morning, according to the Volkskrant.
Pennink's house mates reported him missing on Friday afternoon, when he did not return home from a night out on Thursday.
According to the police, the chance of Pennink being found alive gets smaller by the day. On Friday and Saturday hundreds of people searched the area for the missing young man. On Sunday the police and fire department searched the Spilsluizen with boats, divers and dreg equipment. Al to no avail.
