Four car pileup causes chaos on A2 between Utrecht and Amsterdam

An accident involving four cars brought traffic to a near standstill in Utrecht on Thursday morning. The accident happened just outside the Leidsche Rijn tunnel towards Amsterdam. Only one lane in the tunnel is currently open, according to traffic information service VID. "Chaos threatens around Utrecht", the VID writes on its website. "The A2 will only open again at 8:00 at the earliest. Traffic jams on all sides." By 7:30 a.m. there was a 15 kilometer long traffic jam on the A2. The connecting A12 is also hardly moving. The ANWB advises motorists coming from the south to travel via the A12, A37 or A1 from junction Oudenrijn.
