Fire at Breukelen plastic facility triggers evacuation

A very large fire is raging at plastics processors Blok Plastic in Breukelen on Tuesday morning. Firefighters are struggling to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. Eleven residents of business houses were evacuated, ANP reports. The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. The neighboring building contains gas cylinders, which could be very dangerous if the fire spreads. The property is located between the canal and railway line. According to the news wire, black smoke can be seen hanging over the railway between Utrecht and Amsterdam. The smoke is also heading towards the A2 highway, which could cause traffic problems. Firefighters are using water from the canal to fight the fire. Blok Plastic makes various plastic products including mannequins and boarding.
