Bali ferry explosion kills one Dutch, one Indonesian; 13 hurt
An explosion on a ferry between the Indonesian islands of Bali and Lombok left at least two people dead and 13 wounded. According to Reuters, a Dutch person and an Indonesian person were killed.
A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not confirm that a Dutch person was killed in the explosion, AD reports. Another spokesperson told RTL Nieuws that, according to the passenger lists, no Dutch were aboard the ferry.
The Indonesian police confirmed that at least one foreign woman died. Sugeng Suarso, the police chief of Karangasem in Bali, said to the media that many people were injured and they were taken to hospitals in Denpasar.
The explosion happened on the ferry Gili Cat just off the coast of Lombok. There were 35 foreign tourists on board, a police spokesperson confirmed.
The cause of the explosion is unclear at this stage.
