New Breda train station opens to public

State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Infrastructure and Environment opened the brand new Breda train station to the Public on Thursday, NOS reports. The station is unique in that it is not only a public transport station, but also has space for shops and offices. The complex cost some 144 million euros to built. It was decided to build the complex in brick to match the surrounding city. In total 2.2 million bricks were used. "We wanted to achieve two things. It had to be a complex that is part of Breda and it had to be a comfortable building for the travelers", architect Koen van Velsen said to NOS. He feels they succeeded admirably. "If you look at the station, you see the buses from the outside and to the south you see the trains. This station has become more than a train station. It has become part of the city." Travelers are happy with the new station. "The old station was very ugly, but now it became beautiful", a woman said to Omroep Brabant.
