King opens Netherlands biggest prison
King Willem-Alexander will be opening the biggest and most modern prison in the Netherlands in Westzaan on Tuesday. State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice will also be present, the Telegraaf reports.
The prison complex is officially called Judicial Complex Zaanstad. It is 68 thousand square meters large and contains a remand, a prison and a psychiatric center. It can accommodate a thousand individuals.
The complex is intended to replace obsolete buildings in the Amsterdam and Haarlem region. The psychiatric center is already in use and the rest will follow later this year.
