Leeuwarden councilor facing manslaughter charges over fatal fire

Leeuwarden city councilor Wyb Feddema is facing manslaughter charges for a fire in 2013 in which a 24-year-old student was killed, NU.nl reports. Feddema was the student's landlord. The victim's parents filed the lawsuit. They feel Feddema did not do enough to fireproof the building, which could have prevented their child's death. The fire started in a clothing shop and quickly spread to five shops and eleven homes on Kelders, Minnemastraat and Poststraat. The Leeuwarden councilor says he understands the parents' grief. But he has confidence that he will win this case.
