Traffic problems expected as construction on A1 bridge continues

People traveling the A1 to Amsterdam on Monday morning can expect extra traffic. Work on the railway bridge over the highway at Muiderberg will continue until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, the Telegraaf reports. Work to the bridge started on Friday afternoon. The plan was to have it finished by 5:00 a.m. this morning, but due to "tricky demolition" it will take 10 hours longer, according to the Rijkswaterstaat. From Amersfoort to Amsterdam only one lane is open on Monday. The same goes for the A1 from Almere to Amsterdam from 10:00 a.m. Delays can run up to more than 60 minutes. Road users are advised to pick an alternative route, such as the A27, A12 and A2. But extra traffic due to the work on the A1 bridge will likely cause delays on these routes too. If possible, the Rijkswaterstaat advises travelers to start their journey at a different time or consider working from home today.
