Toddler dies in Zaandam water

A 3-year-old boy died in Zaandam on Monday after he ended up in the waters of the Zuidervaart. Emergency services tried to resuscitate him and he was rushed to the hospital, but it was too late to save him, the police said on Twitter. An Amber Alert was issued for the boy earlier in the afternoon after he was reported missing. The boy was last seen on Wachterstraat, close to the canal. Eyewitnesses told the Telegraaf that he often played in the playground on the street. At this time the police believe the boy drowned. They are investigating exactly what happened.
