Boy dies after rescue from Veenendaal ditch canal

A 5-year-old boy died in hospital after bystanders rescued him from a ditch canal in Veenendaal on Monday. His friend, a 6-year-old who was rescued with him, escaped unharmed, RTL Nieuws reports. The two boys ended up in the water while playing at a fairly wide ditch on Sportlaan. Bystanders saw what happened and immediately ran to help. The bystanders managed to pull the 6-year-old out of the water very quickly, but rescuing the second boy took longer. Emergency services resuscitated the boy at the scene and rushed him to a hospital. On Tuesday morning the police announced that the boy passed away.

Het 5-jarige jongetje dat gisteravond in het water terecht kwam op de Sportlaan #veenendaal is helaas overleden.
