Firefighter injured in Amsterdam blaze

A firefighter was injured while fighting a fire in a restaurant on Spaarndammerstraat in Amsterdam on Sunday night, the Amsterdam fire department said on Twitter. As far as is known, no one else was injured. The fire department believes the fire started in the back of a restaurant and then spread to two adjacent buildings, resulting in another restaurant, a paint shop and nine apartments located on top of it also catching fire. Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. The fire started around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday and firefighters had it under control by 00:30 a.m. The injured firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment. He got hurt by falling from an outbuilding while fighting the fire.
