Fewer trains from Amsterdam to the beach today

Some bad news for Amsterdam residents who want to enjoy the tropical weather on the beach this afternoon - if you travel by train, count on delays. A switch malfunction means that fewer trains are traveling from Amsterdam Central to Alkmaar, Haarlem and Schiphol, Het Parool reports. From 1:00 p.m. there will be no trains to Haarlen. NS hopes to have these trains back up and running by 2:00 p.m. In the mean time buses will travel the route from Sloterdijk, but with at least 60 minutes delay. ProRail is trying to have the switch malfunction rectified by 1:00 p.m. If that fails, the delays may only be caught up during the early hours of Thursday morning, spokesperson said to the newspaper.
