Defense commemorates 21st anniversary of Srebrenica massacre
Flags are hanging at half-mast at the Ministry of Defense buildings in The Hague on Monday to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the fall of the Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica. Today in 1995 Dutchbat III soldiers could not prevent the enclave falling and nearly 8,400 Muslim men and boys being killed by Serbs.
According to the Telegraaf, there will also be a small ceremony on the Plein in The Hague on Monday afternoon to honor the 120 victims who were only identified this past year. Their remains will be reburied in Potocari (Srebrenica). The ceremony starts at 3:00 p.m.
A spokesperson for peace organization PAX told the newspaper that they've expressly asked the Ministry to hang flags at half mast on this anniversary for years. But that request was denied time and again. "But we are very happy that it is finally happening."
