Improving Dutch economy leading to more traffic

Over the past six months the the traffic severity - the number of traffic jams times their length - in the Netherlands increased by 10 percent, compared to the same period last year, ANWB announced on Thursday. The traffic information service attributes the increase in traffic to better economic conditions. Traffic in morning rush hour increased by 5 percent and evening rush hour increased by 12 percent. Traffic during the day increased most with over 20 percent. Amsterdam road users in particular are dealing with more traffic. Traffic in and around Amsterdam increased by 49 percent over the past six months. The opening of the A4 between Delft and Schiedam and the widening of the A15 Europoort - Rotterdam meant a 13 percent decrease in traffic in Rotterdam. One of the Netherlands biggest traffic problems, the A13 Den Haag - Rotterdam, therefore disappeared from the top of the list. It did result in more traffic on the A4 Den Haag - Amsterdam however.
