Schiphol train station to get €250 mil. renovation
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment is making up to 250 million euros available for renovations and reconstruction at the Schiphol train station, State Secretary Sharon Dijksma wrote to parliament on Tuesday, ANP reports.
This money comes from the budget for the new rail safety system ERTMS. Up to 2028 there is a total of 2.6 billion euros available for ERTMS. The system will ensure that trains can not drive through a red signal. By taking money from this budget to renovate Schiphol station, Dijksma is delaying the introduction of the ERTMS.
The Dutch government, NS, Schiphol and the Amsterdam region together want to spend about 600 million euros on improving accessibility of the airport. Exactly how they plan to that will become clear end 2017 or early 2018.
