Dutch navy rescues another 248 migrants from sinking ship
Dutch navy frigate Zr. Ms. Van Amstel rescued another group of asylum seekers on the Mediterranean Sea on Thursday, commander Rob Verkerk reports on Twitter.
This second group consists of 248 asylum seekers. They were rescued from a sinking sinking ship. On Wednesday the frigate picked up 193 people. According to Verkerk, Zr. Ms. Van Amstel was taking 441 asylum seekers to an Italian port on Thursday.
On Friday morning the number of asylum seekers increased to 442, with the arrival of a baby girl. The newborn was called Gelila, which means from the ocean, according to the commander.
The Dutch frigate is paroling the Mediterranean as part of a Frontex operation called Triton.
