Office park fire leaves one seriously injured
One person was critically injured in a large fire in a business complex in Alkmaar on Thursday. He was rushed to the hospital with serious burns, according to local safety office Veiligheidsregio Noord-Holland-Noord.
The fire started in a building on Otterkoog street on an industrial terrain, ANP reports. The area was closed off as emergency services fought the fire. A smoke cloud caused by the fire was visible for miles around, and residents in the area and the village Stompetoren were told to keep their windows and doors closed.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The police are investigating.
According to traffic information service VID, the eastern Ring Alkmaar (N242) was closed in both directions for a few hours due to the fire. Smoke blew across the road and significantly reduced visibility. The road was opened again at around 10:00 p.m.
