Crocodile found in crawlspace under Amsterdam home
Amsterdam police officers responding to a report of a wild animal on Tuesday were shocked to find a large crocodile in the crawlspace of a home on Hoogte Kadijk in Zeeburg.
At first it was unclear whether the animal was dead or alive, but closer investigation showed that the about 90 centimeter crocodile was dead and stuffed.
The Animal Ambulance was called in to deal with the stuffed crocodile. "I crawled through the long dark corridor and there he was, against a heating element", Christian Visser of the Animal Ambulance said to Het Parool. "You could see right away that it was a stuffed specimen. AN old one too, because it almost fell apart." Visser believes the stuffed crocodile is about 20 years old.
The Animal Ambulance did not really know what to do with the animal. "Eventually we decided to take him. He is now in our office and will probably be destroyed", Visser said to the newspaper.
This is not the first crocodile to be found in Amsterdam this year. A few months ago the police found two live crocodiles protecting criminal money in a house in Amsterdam Oost.
