Airbnb opens nuisance hotline for angry neighbors
Home share platform Airbnb launched a hotline for people living in the vicinity of Airbnb-locations. On this hotline Airbnb neighbors can register complaints from noise to illegal rentals, the company announced on Wednesday.
"Starting today (Wednesday, ed) anyone can go to airbnb.com/neighbors to share specific concerns they might have about a listing in their community. These concerns could include things like noise complaints. From there our team will review their concern and, if necessary, follow up with the host regarding the issue." Airbnb writes on its website.
Neighbors can submit complaints anonymously if they prefer. Airbnb promises to take all reports seriously and work hard to resolve concerns. "Hosting is a big responsibility and those who repeatedly fail to meet our standards and expectations will be subject to suspension or removal from the Airbnb community."
According to the company, complaints and issues are incredibly rare so far.
Not only neighbors but also Airbnb guests sometimes have issue with Airbnb accommodation. One such guest made a reservation to stay at DeKey Student Housing only to be told when she picked up the key that the student housing does not allow Airbnb rentals and she had to keep it secret.
"I was so taken aback", TaMar, the guest, said to NL Times, adding that she contacted Airbnb and the listee at once. "I stated to both that I would like my reservation cancelled because I did not feel welcome staying in an illegal rental."
