Amsterdam criminal gunned down in Diemen assassination
Vincent Jalink was killed in what the police are calling an assassination in Diemen on Friday night. His young son witnessed the assassination. The 38-year-old man had a criminal record and was well known to the Dutch authorities, according to the police statement on the shooting.
Jalink was shot several times while sitting in his car with his son on Klipperweg just after 10:00 p.m. on Friday. He collapsed on the street. Emergency services resuscitated him and rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. He died there of his injuries.
The police immediately launched an investigation. Several witnesses reported seeing a man in dark clothing running away from the scene and towards the petrol station on Diemerpolderweg. Further up the road he got onto the back of a dark scooter with blue license plates. Other witnesses report seeing a dark colored car speed away. The police would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the shooting, saw the scooter or the car and haven't spoken to an officer yet. Investigators are also looking for any video footage of photos of the incident.
According to Het Parool, Jalink spent 10 to 15 years in prison for ATM bombings, robberies and money laundering. The latest conviction was for money laundering in the police's so-called "hooligan approach" in which the police focus on known criminals who live a life of luxury on criminal money. There are also cases of drug possession and other ATM bombings against him that are still running.
Jalink was also known as a party organizer, particularly in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Until a few years ago he organized weekly parties in the grand cafe Het Vervolg near Amsterdam ArenA. He still organized parties in a bar on Reguliersdwarsstraat in the city center.
