Shell to slash 2,200 jobs worldwide
Shell is cutting 2,200 jobs worldwide to deal with the continuing low oil prices. Together with two previously announced rounds of layoffs, the Dutch oil and gas giant is cutting a total of 12,500 jobs in 2015 and 2016, the Telegraaf reports.
On Wednesday a spokesperson could not say how many of these new layoffs will affect jobs in the Netherlands. She only stated that the division that detects and pumps crude oil will particularly be affected. "We have to again take painful steps to ensure that Shell remains competitive in the current prolonged downturn", she said.
Last year Shell already scrapped 7,500 jobs as part of a reorganization to survive the poor market conditions. Late last year the company also announced 2,800 job cuts as part of the in February completed acquisition of BG Group.
